The power of the subconscious mind in humans is grossly misunderstood and neglected. As much as a person might want to walk around all day with the belief that they can do anything, if the subconscious mind is not in agreement with that statement, then not much progress is going to be made with that belief.
It is a well known scientific fact that 95% of what a person does, or what happens to a person, is a direct result of the programs residing in the subconscious mind. These are involuntary actions the subconscious mind undertakes throughout the day in order to keep the body functioning.
Besides being responsible for managing all the background tasks within the body such as digestion, organ function, cellular management etc, the subconscious mind is highly efficient in making sure you stay alive and keep functioning as best as possible.
If we were to think about the things we do on a daily basis, we probably would not be able to recall them all. Its because most of those things we do are a result of subconscious programs in the mind that are engaged in the act of doing.
How are subconscious habits formed?
According to neuroscientists, subconscious programs are established in the mind from the very first moments of life as an infant. Between the ages of 3-5, as the young mind is soaking in everything it sees and perceives around it, more programs are embedded and by the age of 7, most of those programs are fully embedded into the system.
According to renowned epigeneticist, Dr. Bruce Lipton, subconscious programming is being developed even while in a fetal state and the cellular environment inside the womb influences how the belief systems are going to be formed.
Now these subconscious mind programs aren’t just about how the biology functions but also how the psychology develops as we grow into our latter years. If you’ve grown up in an environment that didn’t encourage creativity or one where you constantly felt inadequate (“you’re not good enough” or “you’ll never amount to anything”) then getting older, these statements become part of your subconscious belief.
These beliefs in-turn end up creating self-limitations within the person that go completely unnoticed and we are not even aware of. It is because of these self-limiting beliefs that you find yourself working hard (sometimes too hard) to get somewhere in life but constantly falling short. In other words, fulfilling the prophecy that was made over you that “you’ll never amount to anything”.
Are subconscious beliefs permanent?
No. Yet, changing them is considered to be quite difficult. Until recently the only known ways to change subconscious beliefs was through extreme psychotherapy or just by overcoming it through willpower. Most of us out there wouldn’t resort to any clinical remedies to overcome self-limiting beliefs because firstly, we’re not actively aware of it, and secondly, who wants to go to a shrink…right?
Furthermore, the second option is painfully slow and a vast majority will not have the internal strength or motivation to consistently do something to overcome such self-limiting beliefs. Again, this is largely because of not being aware of the problem to begin with.
